Music Post: Apple by Mother Love Bone

Image
I love grunge music. I'm more into the AIC and Soundgarden side of things, but there's one band that I love from the early early days of grunge and that's Mother Love Bone comprised of former Green River band members and future Pearl Jam members with lead singer Andy Wood from Mafunkshun.  Apple is one of the best albums to come out of the early nineties. Enough bite to be hard Rockin' and enough cheesiness to be fun. Andy never took himself too seriously and you can see it in some of the released and unreleased tracks from Mother Love Bone. If Andy hasn't passed away I think MLB would have been just as huge as AIC and Nirvana and Soundgarden. Andy was born to be a star and you can tell by listening to this album that his lyricism, sense of humor, and overall humble demeanor would have endeared him to bigger crowds.  Sadly it was never meant to be as Andy passed on from an allergic reaction to medication in a hospital. MLB changes into Pearl Jam and Pearl Jam becam...

Music Post: The Real Ramona by Throwing Muses

Throwing Muses. What can I really say about them? To me they're like if the Go Gos or The Bangles took a bit of acid and decided to just do what they normally do.  It's fun and it's catchy. None of it feels overly serious or melodramatic or stupid. The Real Ramona to me is everything that encapsulates what makes them great as a band. Kristen's vocals are a big selling point for me due to how expressive and bouncy they are. Not Too Soon was the song that introduced me to them as a band, and it's the song I would suggest others to listen to if they want to get into them as well.  Anyways....I'm not great at reviewing, but I like what I like and I definitely think Throwing Muses are great and kinda get overshadowed by bands like The Pixies or Sonic Youth when the Muses are just as important to the future alternative rock scene as they are.  https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_l5_lz9P-86XQOfUyBzHSHy4LHbjtA7ong&si=pLWtsDFGl34WySte here's a playlist of ...

Music Post: LA Woman by The Doors

Image
What is it about tumultuous behavior that makes bands create great albums?  LA Woman is my personal favorite album by The Doors and it's where Morrison and Co really dive deeply into the blues part of their sound. Everybody is on point and the album from start to finish never feels boring or full of itself which is nice cause many albums from this era do feel excessive (aside from Pearl by Janis Joplin). A lot of these last albums make you wonder where the band would have gone. Janis was getting a cleaner more refined sound. Jimi had his best backing band with the Gypsy's. Morrison was getting deeper and heavier with his lyrics. It's all just a really big what if? I definitely think LA Woman is their crowning jewel, but they never seemed to miss a beat with their discography. Even people who aren't fans of The Doors should check it out I'd say.

Music Post: Lovelife by Lush

Image
Ah yes. The album everybody loves to beat Lush up over. The one where they dropped all pretenses of being strictly Shoegaze. And I think it's fucking great honestly. Love this album and I really don't see why people hate it so much, but we're territorial creatures and terrified of change as history has proven time and time again.  I think this album has been looked at more appraisingly compared to when it first released and the song Ladykillers does a great job of setting up the tone and feeling of everything else. I think this is Miki at her best vocally and I think the band sounds tighter than ever which started with Split. It's a britpop album with teeth and it's easily Lush best sounding album out of the four they've released.  I can't pick a single song and would say the whole album is great and worth a listen.  https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpUk7UtN5Cwg7a3r-bWwc7rtYgUMvKSVU&si=fSfYuN5Qn_We4_fg Here's a playlist of the full album.
